"In Which Jay Mariotti Became the Target of an Internet-Based Attack-Site"
The anti-Jay Mariotti attack-site known as Jay The Joke was removed from its original Internet home a little more than two weeks ago, either on late October 6 or early October 7. It had existed there ever since it first was started on May 21 of this year. At the same time (roughly October 6 or October 7), the old attack-site was replaced by the current Jay The Joke attack-site. There is no telling how long the new attack-site will last.
Like the old attack-site, anyone can view the new Jay The Joke. However, the new site also requires users to register with its administrators before they can become "members" of the site—and membership is a prerequisite before someone can post comments to the site.
Needless to say, I have never taken the test. Let alone passed it.
As of late Monday evening, October 23, there were a total of 162 registered members at the new attack-site. These numbers have increased steadily since the new site was launched. (For anyone interested in seeing a break-down of the registered members in aggregates of 50 each, you can take a look at the members for yourself at Dittoheads 1-50, Dittoheads 51-100, Dittoheads 101-150, Dittoheads 151-200, respectively. Enjoy.)
One question that strikes me as worth asking is: Who are the most frequent posters of comments to the Jay The Joke attack-site?
Assuming the somewhat arbitrary minimum of 8 posts or more, each of the following 14 registered members has posted 8 or more different times to the Jay The Joke attack-site (i.e., it being late Monday evening, October 23--of course, these numbers will change over time):
Dittoheads 1-50 – Total Posts
- Tyrone Briggs - 86 posts
- TomD - 29 posts
- theguy - 10 posts
Dittoheads 51-100 – Total Posts
- Patrick Dahl - 25 posts
- ny-exchicagoan - 29 posts
- joe - 13 posts
- Jamel - 86 posts
Dittoheads 101-150 – Total Posts
- hitman74 - 8 posts
- Hino2 - 38 posts
- FredSox49 - 19 posts
- eric - 8 posts
- Cubs2578 - 8 posts
Dittoheads 151-200 – Total Posts
- BigBadBill - 30 posts
- Bernie Lincicome - 8 posts
The Jay The Joke attack-site also has someone it identifies as an or the Administrator (Member No. 1 in the history of the new site, in fact) and Matt Lynch. Along with Patrick Dahl, these three Internet IDs constitute what the site lists as its “Super Administrator Group.” (Though it’s always possible that I missed one.)
Excluding Patrick Dahl (who is a member of the Super Administrator Group, and, along with Matt Lynch, largely posts primary entries to the attack-site, rather than comments), we can see from the list above that, through late Monday evening, October 23, both Tyrone Briggs and Jamel had posted 86 comments apiece; Hino2 had posted 38; BigBadBill 30; both TomD and ny-exchicagoan 29; FredSox49 19; joe 13; theguy 10; and four others (hitman74, eric, Cubs2578, Bernie Lincicome) 8 apiece.
Of these 13 most frequent posters of comments to the Jay The Joke attack-site, no fewer that 7 of them used yahoo.com email addresses when registering for membership.
See for yourselves:

I wish that I could definitively account for the fact that so many of the most frequent posters of comments among Jay The Joke’s Dittoheads happened to have registered for the privilege under yahoo.com email addresses. But on a scale of zero to 100, with zero representing, well, zero significance, and 100 representing complete and total significance, I would wager that this little yahoo.com fact has greater significance than mere chance alone can explain. Not only are Jay The Joke’s most compulsive Dittoheads also among its worst Yahoos. (Recall that in Swift’s story, the “Yahoos were known to hate one another more than they did any different species of animals; and the reason usually assigned was the odiousness of their own shapes, which all could see in the rest, but not in themselves.”) But far too many of Jay The Joke’s chief Dittoheads followed the exact same yahoo.com route when joining its ranks not to raise certain reasonable suspicions about it. Sadly, it is intrinsic to the nature of the Internet for abusers and predators—some of our modern day Yahoos—to flock to the anonymity that it provides.
Of course, some caveats are in order. At Internet-based attack-sites such as Jay The Joke, where truth, honesty, and basic decency are systematically devalued, we also find that absolute premiums are placed on anonymity and deception instead. This means that whatever web-based persona or multiple personae one or more persons assume on the Jokester's stage, it really could be anybody. Even Mr. Mariotti.
Such is the way of the flesh among Internet attack-sites and the weird creatures who flourish in their toxic environs.
Wake up, fans of decency.
